What we are doing today in art tourism our forefathers did over two centuries ago when they first broke new ground and settled this region.

Our heritage is rich in the spirit of the pioneers, who saw opportunity and took the initiative to create their dreams. The place names they created reflect both their vision and the stunning beauty that inspired them – Paradise, Garden of Eden and Promised Land to name a few.

Over the past 20 years mural art has proved a turning point for the economic prosperity of Sheffield and hosting the 2008 Global Mural Conference will be a defining moment in the project’s history.

And... in the true tradition of our earliest pioneers and reflecting our ethos of “a small town with a BIG idea”, the conference will also be complimented by the first ever Global Mural Fest. Not only will Mural Fest 2008 be an international event, but there will be a number of other arts based competitions hosted and judged during that week.
